Worship

The Greek word from which our word “liturgy” derives means “the work of the people,” and at St. Mary’s Whitechapel we take that work very seriously. We are a parish that explores and celebrates the rich liturgical traditions of the Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion of which we are a part.

The heart of our worship is our celebration of the Eucharist or Holy Communion, the gathering of our church family around a common table to celebrate and give thanks (which is what the word “Eucharist” means) for our life together and for the presence of God’s grace among us. The Eucharist – which we celebrate at almost all of our worship services – is a reflection of our sacramental life as a Parish. “Sacrament” means “to make sacred or consecrate,” and in the Eucharist – by “making sacred” the common, everyday elements of bread and wine – we recognize the inherent sacredness in our own common lives and in our day-to-day relationships with one another.

We gather as a community each Sunday at 11:15 AM to partake of this blessed sacrament. We invite you to join us for worship!
