Welcome
Whoever you are, Jesus welcomes you to the table, and longs to feed you, to satisfy your hunger, with his very self. So come to him with your hunger, and hear again those gracious words of compassion: “I am the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry. And whoever believes in me will never thirst. — Geoffrey Tristram, SSJE
Located in Lancaster, Virginia on the picturesque Northern Neck, St. Mary’s Whitechapel is an historic colonial church. Established in 1669, we honor our 350 year history while embracing the present and supporting future generations.
Worship
St. Mary’s Whitechapel is a member of the Protestant Episcopal Church in America and the World Wide Anglican Communion. Our Sunday services are rooted in the Book of Common Prayer and biblical readings are taken from the cyclical Lectionary. Services consist of prayers, hymns, biblical readings, a sermon and Holy Communion.
In addition to our 11:15 a.m. Sunday service, we hold special services such as:
Celtic Walking Services in the Labyrinth in the Woods and along White Chapel Woods Nature Trail
Blessing of the Animals in the Labyrinth
Joint services with our sister church, Trinity Episcopal Church in Lancaster Courthouse, VA
Serving the World
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”
— Matthew 35-36
We strive to meet the call from Jesus to love our neighbors in many ways, and invite you to join as we do. Our ministries include:
Upper Lancaster Community Food Pantry
Meals on Wheels
Educational Grants for Students
School Supplies for local elementary school
White Chapel Woods Nature Trail
Building Community
“For where two or three gather in my name,
there am I with them.”
— Matthew 18-20
We are called to be in community with one another, to love our neighbors, and to support each other. The early church, as told through the Book of Acts, met together, shared meals together, and worshipped together. It is in community that we buoy each other up and share the gifts of ourselves with others.
In addition to gathering during worship, we also gather through
Twice weekly Community Line Dancing
Twice weekly Community Chair Yoga
Monthly Book Club, in person and via zoom
Serving on teams to support the church and community activities
1st Sunday’s Luncheon and Simple Sunday coffee hours
Seasonal Christian Education programs
White Chapel Woods Nature Trail Stewardship
