Educational Grants

2023 Grant awardees

St. Mary’s Whitechapel proudly offers Educational Grants each year. The amount of the grants may vary each year and the maximum number of do not exceed 20 recipients.

Eligibility

The candidate must be a high school senior, community college or vocational school student, or undergraduate college student for the year the award is made and, is a legal resident of Lancaster County or is a child or grandchild of a St. Mary’s Whitechapel parishioner.

Additionally:

  • The family income will not exceed $115,000.

  • Meet the following GPA (grade point average) requirements:

    • High school seniors or high school graduates planning to attend a 4 year college the GPA will be no lower than 3.0

    • High school seniors or high school graduates planning to attend a community college the GPA will be no lower than 2.5.

    • Returning college students will have a grade point average of at least 2.5

  • Will attend a college/university, community college or vocational school in the year which the grant is received

First Time Applicants

  • File an application with the Educational Grants Committee.

  • Complete a personal letter stating how the grant will be used.

  • Provide an official transcript of grades. The transcript must include recent test scores and class rank (if class rank is available).

  • Submit two letters of recommendation from teachers, employers, or community persons.

Renewing Applicants

  • File an application with the Educational Grants Committee.

  • Provide a recent official transcript of grades.

Submitting Applications

Applications and associated materials must be received by Monday, April 3, 2024. Applications can be mailed to the office or dropped off at the office. The office is located in the Parish Hall of St. Mary’s Whitechapel at 5940 White Chapel Road, Lancaster, VA 22503 and is open Wednesday - Friday, 12 noon - 5 pm. Please make sure the application is marked to the attention of the Educational Grants Committee.
